Orthodontics is the whole of all procedures performed to correct tooth structure disorders due to various reasons. It is an aesthetic treatment performed to eliminate problems occurring in the mouth, teeth and jaw. The aim of this treatment is to achieve an aesthetic appearance as well as to achieve a healthy structure.
Crooked teeth; It makes chewing difficult and can disrupt the flow of speech. Untreated orthodontic problems can progress further over time.
With orthodontist treatment, jaw problems that may arise in the future are prevented, proper chewing is ensured, and speech disorders are prevented. Simple orthodontic problems in the early stages can be solved with rubber appliances that can be attached and removed by the patient.
In orthodontic treatments, reinforcement treatments should not be neglected to ensure that the treatment is carried out without interruption and that there are no relapses after the treatment is completed. During these periods, passive appliances may need to be used.
Orthodontic examination in children should be around the age of 6-7, when the first permanent dentition begins. With an examination at this age, both closing problems that may occur in the teeth and skeletal disorders of the jaws can be diagnosed. Starting treatment as early as possible will prevent problems that may occur in adulthood.
If you have the following symptoms in childhood, do not delay making an appointment at our orthodontic clinic.
What Does Orthodontic Treatment Include?
We can list 4 types of orthodontic treatment methods that are frequently used in orthodontist treatment. The reason for choosing these may vary depending on the structural disorder the patient has and the patient’s expectations. These methods:
Metal Braces (Metal Braces)
Metal braces are the oldest and most durable braces. It is placed on the inner or outer surface of the tooth by the orthodontist, depending on the jaw and tooth structure. Although it does not present a pleasant appearance, it is a widely used method. The treatment period lasts between 6 months and 24 months, depending on the degree of the disorder.
Porcelain Braces (Transparent Braces)
There is no difference between transparent braces and metal braces in terms of the results of the treatment. The material from which transparent braces are made is a porcelain-based material. Therefore, it looks more aesthetically beautiful and natural because it resembles the tooth structure. However, its durability is not as high as metal braces. Therefore, it may not be suitable for use, especially in children.
Transparent Plaque
This method, also known as Invisalign, is used to treat milder dental and jaw disorders compared to other treatment methods. There are no brackets and wires in clear dental plaque treatment. Measurements are made using special 3D methods for the patient’s current tooth structure and the desired correction. According to the measurements made, a special transparent plate (Invisalign) is prepared for the patient.
The patient wears this plate 22 hours a day. Unlike other braces, the patient can remove and wear this plate while brushing his teeth or eating. In terms of aesthetics, it also offers a more desirable appearance than braces.
